“Sustainability must be more than just a declaration of intent” – Why Mediaforta is embarking on an intensive sustainability journey
“For us, sustainability is not just a buzzword but a strategic choice,” says Tom Peeters, Managing Director of Mediaforta. “As a content marketing agency, we want to take responsibility and contribute concretely to a more sustainable world. That is why we have committed to achieving the VOKA Sustainable Business Charter (VCDO) by 2025. This journey helps us structurally embed sustainability into our operations.”

A logical step in our growth
Sustainable business practices have long been embedded in Mediaforta’s DNA, but the VCDO journey provides an additional boost to these efforts. “We realized that as a company, we were already taking various steps toward sustainability, but we wanted a more structured approach,” explains Tom Peeters. “The VOKA program provides us with a framework and concrete support to refine and effectively achieve our sustainability goals.”
This journey not only offers guidance but also serves as a learning platform. “We can learn from other companies that are also focused on sustainability. This provides inspiration and best practices that we can apply in our own operations. Additionally, we gain insights into how sustainability evolves across different industries.”
The program also provides a structured way to evaluate and adjust our initiatives where necessary. “Sustainability requires continuous effort. The VCDO helps us take one step further each time.”
Sustainability as a long-term vision
Mediaforta does not see sustainability as a one-time project but as an integral part of its business operations. “It goes beyond just environmental measures,” emphasizes Tom. “Sustainability also has social and economic dimensions. For instance, we aim to invest in employee well-being, support our clients in their sustainability communications, and handle new technologies like AI, ethically.”
One of Mediaforta’s ambitions is to become a knowledge center for sustainability communication. “We notice that many companies struggle with how to communicate their sustainability efforts clearly and transparently. We want to support them and help them craft credible and impactful messages.”
Moreover, we are undertaking initiatives ourselves to improve sustainability across various aspects. “For example, by being more conscious of our energy consumption, encouraging remote work, and making informed choices when selecting suppliers. Small adjustments can collectively make a big impact.”
The power of collaboration
Sustainable business practices cannot be achieved alone. That is why Mediaforta not only makes sustainable choices internally but also involves its stakeholders in this journey. “Reducing our ecological footprint is high on our agenda. At the same time, we aim to inspire and support our network. We conduct surveys to understand how freelancers and clients approach sustainability so that we can take steps together,” says Tom.
“Additionally, we consciously invest in partnerships. A great example is our decision to purchase year-end gifts from local suppliers and the Lions Club Kortenberg Hertog Jan. This way, we support social projects and create a positive impact beyond our company.”
“We also look beyond our direct business relationships,” Tom adds. “We participate in networks and conferences to stay informed about the latest developments and explore new collaboration opportunities.”
Transparency and communication
Transparency is a crucial aspect of sustainable business practices. “That is why we commit to sharing our sustainability journey openly and honestly with the outside world,” says the Mediaforta Managing Director. “This includes blog posts—where we detail our sustainability actions—and engaging messages on social media. We hope this not only inspires our clients and partners but also keeps us accountable in achieving our goals.”
By joining the VOKA program, Mediaforta aims to anchor sustainability in its strategy and operations. “We are excited about the path we are taking and look forward to shaping our commitment further. Sustainability must be more than just a declaration of intent. It is a responsibility we take seriously as a company,” concludes Tom.
