Podcast: Cracking cybersecurity copy (with cybersecurity copywriter Sue)
Cybersecurity has never been more complex. From credential theft to AI-powered risks, today’s threats demand clear communication that speaks to both end users and the C-suite. In this episode of Creator Talks, cybersecurity copywriter Sue shares how she translates complex risks into content that builds awareness and trust.
How does AI fit into cybersecurity?
“AI can help a company improve its cybersecurity stance. Because AI can sniff out attacks before they happen and determine if something is a positive or a negative. It takes over all the mundane stuff humans just cannot handle because there are so many attacks coming into a company these days. But threat actors are also using generative AI to improve their attacks. They are using it to create malicious code, ransomware, better fishing emails, …”

How do you make complex content like cybersecurity content accessible?
“I am really writing it… for me! If I understand it, I can put it out there for others to understand. You also have to keep your audience in mind. A consumer just wants to keep their information safe. But someone from the C-level has to think about their company, employees, customers, vendors, … Still writing for them is just like writing for the consumer, because I don’t expect the CEO or COO to have a lot of cybersecurity knowledge. On the other hand, writing for the CISO (Chief Information and Security Officer) is a little different.”

Is the cybersecurity language somewhat agreed upon in the world?
“There is no standard cybersecurity language for example in hiring. When a company is looking for a cybersecurity person, they might call them a data security expert, a cybersecurity analyst or something else. All these different terms mean the same thing. So when you are looking at a job opening it takes a while to figure out what it is and realise: oh that is what I have been doing for years!”
